The business of anti-aging results in more than billion dollars of generated revenue every single year. Over 12.5% of that is done online and more than 25% come from the results of published books and magazines. The mainstream medical community continues to sneer at the anti-aging community advocates and point out that there is no credible evidence that any type of life extension treatment, drug, or supplement actually works. The life extension community points to all the anecdotal evidence and life changing stories they have while the bio-ethicists continue to wonder whether or not and how anti-aging should actually take place. What a conundrum this has turned out to be.

The average Joe on the street does not really care about living forever but what they do care about is having a quality of life as they do age. A quality that allows them to enjoy the fruits of a lifetime of labor. It is this group of people for which nutrition, exercise, food supplements, skin products, surgical procedures, vitamins, and herbs are all aimed toward. They do not necessarily want to live longer just to live better.

These two items are helped by the foods you put into your mouth. Diet becomes a main factor in your quality of life as you age. Eating a balanced diet with proper portion control as you get older will help you to stay more active and fight off any age related illnesses.

Nutritional supplements while helpful are not always necessary. However, given the choice, Americans and those countries with a more Western diet, should consider a good multivitamin with plenty of antioxidants and some form of omega-3 fish oil supplement. These two supplements can help to reduce the risk of mutating cells (which form cancers) and age related diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and dementia. Eye, heart, blood vessel, and brain health are other side benefits of these anti-aging nutritional supplements.

Hormone treatments, cosmetic surgeries, and some other medical procedures, usually related to blood cleansing, are not as effective and often have serious consequences and side effects. The least of which is, they are extremely expensive. Expense aside, the physical side effects of many of these treatments are known to cause other problems and they provide little benefit. In defense of cosmetic surgery, the results may bring a strong psychological lift to the patient and therefore have a significant effect on their mood and willingness to carry forward. The will to live is probably the greatest thing going for those seeking help with the aging process.

The scientific, the ethical, and the regular Joe find themselves at odds when it comes to getting older. Many feel that it can be reversed, others don’t, while the great majority of us just want to be happy and healthy. Live life to the fullest, experience each moment and be glad for another day on this side of the grass.
