Many people overweight feel insecure and have low self-esteem. It can be hard to stop negative thoughts from ruining their weight loss dreams but it is possible. You need to be determined and really be clear on what you what to achieve with eating healthy and exercising. What do you really really want out of this?
It is somewhat of a burden to be negative and it really can stop us fulfilling our dreams so below are some tips on how to stop being negative and start living positively.
1. Commitment.
You cant just decide to be positive; you are so used to being negative that it takes time to get out of old habits and into new. So you need to make a commitment to being positive. When you wake in the morning give yourself prepare yourself for the day with positivity. You can write down a few weight loss affirmations to say to yourself with feeling and meaning each morning. This is a great start to your day and something you can refer back to when feeling a little negative!
2. Have self-awareness & notice negativity
Start being more observant of your attitude and behavior. When you start noticing how you talk and how you are negative it is much easier to stop yourself continuing in that path. Becoming more conscious and living in the present moment will help you challenge your internal dialogue and behavior.
To get started record any negative comments you make throughout a day or so. See if you can see any patterns. Are you thoughts related to you specifically, to work or other people? This will give you a good basis to start challenging. Also make it a point of spending some time in the present moment throughout the day.
3. Be Thankful For What You Have
Sometimes we can get so hung up on our negativity that we forget about what we do have. When you feel angry or negative towards something, it can be helpful to acknowledge what you do have and appreciate it. It centers and balances you. Focusing on this is much better for your esteem and happiness. Make a point of acknowledging as often as you can to get you out of negative mode. A good way to do this is to create a diary/journal. Make it a point at the end of the day to write down 5 things that you are thankful for or that have made you happy that day.
4. Focus On What You Can Change
Like point 3 focus on the positive. If you keep focusing on the things you cant change you will just get yourself down. Sometimes things are out of our control but one thing you do know for sure is that you CAN lose weight. Set about a plan to focus on your ability to do this.
5. Dont Beat Yourself Up: Accept Failure.
Lifestyle changes dont happen over night. Sometimes it can take many years for people to move over to a truly healthful lifestyle. If you slip-up acknowledge it, notice how it made you feel and move on. Dont make a drama out of it; it is one tiny event in the grand scheme of things. Remember that. If you find that hard to do, focus on what you have achieved so far.
